Learning artificial lighting is something that strikes fear in the heart of a lot of photographers, but it does not have to be a scary, unknown thing. If you are new to working with off-camera flash, this helpful video tutorial will get you up and running in no time.
Coming to you from Mike Smith, this fantastic video tutorial will show you the ins and outs of working with off-camera flash. The beauty of off-camera flash is that when you master it, you can create any type of light you want at any given time with no reliance on whatever natural light is available at that moment. It does not have to be purely artificial, though; in fact, one of the best first off-camera shots you can try out is balancing ambient and artificial light for a dramatic sunset portrait. Not only will this give you some very useful practice in building your technical skills, it is a classic shot that you can add to your portfolio and offer to clients. Check out the video above for the full rundown from Smith.
